"It’s life changing and could not have come at a better time as I had a nasty fall august 30th which has impacted my health, ability to move and pain. Thank you all so much at Road! Your work is amazing!"
“I saw an advert about crafts at Jack drum and asked my husband would he come with me, I was very happy when he agreed and after the first time we both loved it. A very safe happy environment, with no judgment on anything, it soon became our look forward to event of the week. While there we learnt about this thing called ROAD, Dave signed us both up for it and I had no idea what I was signing up to. It is brilliant, there is support available in all areas of life from mental health and wellbeing, to day to day struggles with life, money etc. We each got a key worker and we’re individually guided to the help we need in our own personal needs. We still go to jack drum and we benefit greatly from the crafts and courses we do, the things we have been included with like festivals and days out, it’s like being part of a community family and we are blessed to have found it. Them guiding us to Road is like winning the lottery for us, it has been life changing and the support is ongoing which is brilliant as my health has deteriorated since I first started which has affected my mental health. With the support from Road I feel I am learning how to cope with things better, I’m learning skills with breathing and meditation which I have always tried to learn but it never quite clicked, this time it’s working. Dave and I have regular breathing sessions and meditation lessons with Marti and we are both practicing these to make them part of our everyday life. Furthermore, my health trainer Marti helped me to get some home adaptations through the DCC Disabled Disability Grant. I explained to Marti how my illness was impacting on my life, I hadn’t been able to get in or out of the bath for over a year and having a shower was a tiring chore, going up and down my stairs was hard work and dangerous as they are dangerously steep with very narrow steps. A man from occupation health came to assess my situation, he listened and had a look at my bathroom and stairs and he suggested I needed more than just some hand rails! I was offered a stair lift and a walk-in shower. Much to my shock this was put into action relatively quickly and they are now fitted. My stair lift is in constant use and is a blessing to myself and my husband not only in the physical side but also the mental one because Dave constantly worried I would have a fall on the stairs. The bathroom is now a wet room, a total refit from floor to ceiling. It is an absolute joy to be able to get a shower at any time, not have the exhaustion from the struggle to climb into and out of the bath to shower. I can’t stress how much these things are life savers for myself, never in my life would I have thought I could be so lucky to have both the stair lift and wet room. It’s life changing and could not have come at a better time as I had a nasty fall august 30th which has impacted my health, ability to move and pain. Thank you all so much at Road ! Your work is amazing! A thank you too to every person included in fitting the equipment into my house from the stair lift and bathroom! The company Sutton was the main company and they were brilliant. Thank you All so very much, you have helped me in many ways and my future is brighter from your help.
