All About Us

Reaching Out Across Durham (ROAD) is a social-inclusion programme, designed to help the residents of County Durham who are out of work and aged 25 or above to overcome barriers to employment.

We understand that there are many causes of unemployment, including health issues, gaps in qualifications, lack of confidence or not having relevant experience. It is important to note that ROAD is not a programme that forces Participants into a job: rather, we aim to help each individual to find their potential in any way they wish, enabling them to feel able to move into education, training, job search, employment, and volunteering, only when they are ready. If work is not appropriate, we will work with individuals to encourage the development of their skills to ensure an improvement in confidence, knowledge, health and wellbeing.

What Happens Next?

It all starts with an initial chat on the phone. During this call we will give you information on how we may be able to help you, and you can find out if the support from ROAD is what you’re looking for.

We will then allocate you a Navigator, and your Navigator will then contact you to arrange an initial appointment.

Your Navigator will be your point of contact and will support you throughout your time with ROAD. The Navigator will create an individual plan for you based upon your needs and goals, and help and support you in reaching those goals.

Our support is free, voluntary and most importantly tailored to your needs.

Our typical support consists of:

Help you improve your CV

Help you search for the right jobs for you

Help you apply for the jobs you want

Help you with Interview Preparation and techniques

Improve your digital skills

Increase motivation

Manage debt

Help you access training

Improve your financial situation

ROAD is a Building Better Opportunities Programme hosted by Groundwork NE & Cumbria. Jointly funded by the European Social Fund and the National Lottery Community Fund, we aim to provide support to the most disadvantaged groups in County Durham, who are furthest from the labour market and who experience significant barriers to work.
