Self-Employment & Enterprise
The ROAD Partnership has a unique enterprise offering aimed at raising awareness of self-employment, recognising current and potential opportunities and working with Participants to develop business ideas and enterprise skills.
Our Partner CDC Enterprise Agency (CDC) provides coordination and liaison across the Partnership to support current and potential self-employment opportunities and to work with Participants for whom enterprise is a viable route to work, as well as monitoring this element of the programme.
CDC helped ROAD Participant, Elizabeth Howe, to follow her ambition to become a self employed therapeutic musician. Watch this fantastic video of Elizabeth doing what she does best!
CDC offers specialist one-to-one ‘Be Your Own Boss’ training sessions for Participants who have an interest in working for themselves, and for those who wish to consider self-employment in more depth, workshops are offered. Based on a wealth of professional experience, CDC foresee that Participants require around 12 hours of enterprise support over a period of around 6-8 weeks to help them to start a business, and workshops look at topics such as setting up a home business and turning a hobby into a business.
We recognise how daunting it can be when thinking of starting a business; there are lots of options available and sometimes, people simply need some guidance to help get started. CDC help Participants with:
- Developing ideas
- Writing a business plan
- Assessing the financial viability of the business
- Identifying funding / grant opportunities
- Keeping it legal!
